PODCAST VIDEO

Hello, my name is Gareth and I'm from England and my question is do you listen to the radio or podcasts?
I listen to podcasts on my way to work and I very rarely listen to the radio. I listen to podcasts because I can pause and stop when I have to change from a bus to a train. I can then resume when I get on to the train from where I paused. So it's very convenient. Radio, on the other hand, you can't really pause it live so I very rarely listen to the radio.
The podcasts which I like and I listen to the most these days are Adam & Joe which is actually a radio show in England. It's broadcast live but then recorded and they cut out the music and they condense it down and release it as a podcast through iTunes and that's pretty funny and it's a good representation of British comedy. And I also listen to two American podcasts, one is called This American Life and it's pretty interesting. It's about American people and their theme each week changes and it's very general, food, music, stuff like that and the third podcast I listen to the most is Radio Lab and that's a podcast, it's an American podcast about science and it's really easy to understand. It's not very technical and also like American Life they have interesting stories and they kind of talk about it in a scientific way and it's very interesting.

AUPAIR
Au Pair USA’s screening and matching process is designed to help you select the best au pair for your family. You’ll start by reviewing the au pair’s application packet. If the au pair’s application appeals to you, you’ll have the opportunity to interview her or him. This is probably the most crucial point of your decision process—you’ll not only be able to learn about the au pair’s experience and English skills, but you’ll also get a sense of her or his personality.
Because the interview is so important, you should prepare your questions in advance. Feel free to keep a conversational tone, but make sure you cover all your important questions and issues during the interview. You may find the following list helpful as you prepare for your interviews:

  • Why do you want to become an au pair?
  • Have you ever lived away from your family before?
  • How do you feel about leaving your family for a year?
  • Do you have any friends who were au pairs?
  • What did you study in school?
  • How many years did you study English?
  • What type of jobs have you had recently?
  • What do you enjoy most about working with children?

  • What are the ages of the children you have cared for in the past?
  • How do you discipline children? How were you disciplined as a child?
  • What type of relationship do you have with your family? How do they feel about you coming to America for a year?
  • Would you be happy in the host family's community if it was isolated, a city, suburban, or rural? What type of area do you currently live in?
  • What type of household chores are expected of you in your home?
  • Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend? How do they feel about you leaving for a year? Are they going to visit?
  • What type of hobbies do you have?
  • Do you like sports, travel, swimming, the beach, etc?
  • Do you understand what it's like to spend 45 hours a week with young children? Have you ever cared for a child for an extended period of time?
  • Do both your parents work?
  • Do you cook? What types of meals do you envision cooking for the children?
  • Do you consider yourself a tidy or messy person? Would you have a problem joining a very messy or very neat household?
